About Us

Mustafa Esen was born in Kırşehir On Aug. 23.1954. a sleepy little town 120 miles South – East of Ankara. He comes from poor stock, his father being a farmer, Mustafa is the youngest of 5 children.

He was only 11 years old when he began in his brother’s copper workshop. He soon astounded everyone in town with his surprising ability to master the skillful use of the many tolls employed in copper work. Unassisted or even encouraged, he constantly tried new approaches and techniques to improve his handicraft. At an early age, he first exhibited samples of his art the annual Kırşehir Exhibition in Sept. 1979.

His unusual work eventually attracted the attention of prominent government officials including the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism. He was summoned to the latter’s office where the Minister doubted that Mustafa had actually executed such fine work and accompanied him to his workshop to observe him firsthand. Very impressed, Mustafa was invited to demonstrate his remarkable skill at the İzmir Tourism Fair. He demonstrated his craft from 25.3-10.4.1980 and also at the annual Ephesus Festival during May 1981 and 1982.

Later, in 1982 he participated in the annual Christmas festival at Kaş, Antalya.

Mustafa Esen's meticulous craftsmanship is reflected in all of his work. His designs are inspired by the Islamic art collections featured in the many ancient Islamic art books in his library.

All reviews and comments about Mustafa’s work are indeed flattering and highly appreciated. But the one he holds dearest is that of a Turkish museum art critic, who once said:

"These newly created elegant pieces are the precious antiques of tomorrow. They are family treasures that can be passed on from generation to generation. They are investments certain to increase in value."
